CARBOTEC MINI TWIN(GERMANY AIRCRAFT)

Carbotec Mini Twin (Germany), Aircraft - Fixed-wing - Civil

Type
Single-seat twin ultralight kitbuilt.

Programme
During the 1970s, Flugkapitän Manfred Scholz and Wolfgang Schmitz designed and began construction of the SS-1 long-distance racer, powered by two 24 kW (32 hp) engines mounted on pylons attached to the rear fuselage and capable of carrying a comparatively large fuel load. Structure was-for the day-of advanced materials, namely carbon fibre and glass fibre. Details, and a photograph of a model, appeared in contemporary editions of Jane's All the World's Aircraft. Registration D-GFKK was assigned in 1977; completed aircraft exhibited at Essen in May 1977, but was refused official permission to attempt flight and was dismantled. At Aero '07, Friedrichshafen, 19 to 22 April 2007, the unflown prototype of Carbotec's newly-built Mini Twin was shown, bearing an obvious relationship to the SS-1, even the same registration but with numerous changes, including shorter span and with engines transferred to the wings. By late 2008, there was no evidence of the aircraft having been flown or the registration being formally allocated to the new machine. It did not appear at Aero '09.
